The Works of Iván Godoy Contreras

Painting, n.: The art of protecting flat surfaces from the weather, and exposing them to the critic.

- Ambrose Bierce

For reasons unfathomable to me, I received an email which stated,

This is an invitation to know the artworks of the Chilean artist Iván Godoy.  His works are mainly oils and he can be characterised as a surrealist artist who has developed a personal iconography calling out about important subjects of the contemporary world.  Godoy has presented and displayed his artworks in several countries of the world, including Mexico, Ecuador and Austria and has exhibited in the Rally Museum in Santiago, Chile; Cervantes Gallery in Vienna, Austria; Gallery Kunst Halle in Berlin, Germany; and the Museum of Modern Art of City in Mexico among others.  I hope this is of interest, since Godoy hopes to find new spaces for his work and is looking for people and organisations to help plan events and exhibitions in the near future.

The email concluded:

I hope that you will visit and learn about my artwork.
Waiting for your answer.

Kindly,
Iván Godoy Contreras

I was waiting for a phone call, so I idly clicked on Contreras' link.  I was surprised to find that I liked his paintings quite well.  To me, they seemed a blend of Picasso and Dali.  He can be contacted at:

I think of art, at its most significant, as a DEW line, a Distant Early Warning system
that can always be relied on to tell the old culture what is beginning to happen to it.
